Angel Rodriguez and Luciana Pereira Named Goldey-Beacom September Athletes of the Month
PIKE CREEK, Del. – Senior men’s soccer player Angel Rodriguez and junior women’s tennis player Luciana Pereira have been named the Goldey-Beacom College September male and female athletes of the month, it was announced by the GBC Athletic Department on Thurs., Oct. 1.
A native of Kennett Square, Pa., Rodriguez has recorded eight goals and four assists through nine games this year, helping the Lightning (4-5) already surpass last year’s win total of three.
Rodriguez dazzled the fans at Nancy Churchman-Sawin Field on Sept. 17 with a four-goal and one assist performance against Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference opponent, Chestnut Hill College to lift GBC to a 5-2 win. He was awarded CACC honorable mention that week for his efforts.
Through games of Sept. 28, this 5”8’ standout from Avon Grove HS ranks 11th in the NCAA in points-per-game (2.5), 13th in goals per game (1.0) and 35th in assists per game (0.5). He ranks third, fourth and first, respectively, in those categories within the CACC. He also leads the conference in shots per game with 4.62.
A Business Administration major with a concentration in International Business Management, Rodriguez has scored 31 points in his career on 11 goals and nine assists.
Pereira, a native of Sao Paulo, SP – Brazil, is 9-1 in singles play and 6-1 in doubles play this season. She has helped the Lightning to a perfect 6-0 record in the month of September. She also advanced to the quarterfinal round of singles play at the International Tennis Association tournament over the weekend of Sept. 18-21.
A Business Administration major who has been named to the President’s List twice for academic excellence, is 21-3 for her career in singles play.
